Raksha Sutra provides protection against the Evil Eye

If you believe defense is better than having to fight later then have full trust in what is called the Mauli Kalawa. Does the word sound unfamiliar? Could be because it's generally called the Raksha Sutra the protective Thread. Another unique aspect of the Hindu Religion is that understands the ultra-fine aspects of Evil Eye or negative influence that may affect the prosperity of a person. People know the Raksha Sutra significance and whenever a religious event is held it is normal for all attending to have the sacred thread tied on their wrists for protection against all negative influences. The thread is tied by the priest conducting the Pooja and he recites the sacred Raksha Sutra mantra while he is typing the thread on a person’s wrist.

The red and yellow-colored version is the most common

This is usually a red-colored two-thread piece or a yellow and a red-colored together and is called a Molly, Raksha Sutra, or a Mauli Kalawa across India. The concept is that the thread is tied by reciting the mantra of any specific deity whose worship is ongoing at a puja event. Thereafter the person is said to be under the protection of the deity worshiped who protects the wearer against any evil influence or Evil Eye. Sometimes even a three-thread version is tied which basically denotes that the holy trinity of Hindu gods i.e., Brahma-Vishnu-Mahesh is the protector of the person.

The thread is always made of cotton yarn

In case the thread becomes torn or tattered or needs to be changed for some reason, the same is then done either on a Tuesday or  Saturday. These threads are made from cotton strands only and are never made of any synthetic material as it is prescribed in ancient scriptures. If you were to visit any important temple town or a place where a religious event is taking place, it's a common sight to see almost every person wearing the sacred thread of protection.
